Aim & Scope
The Portuguese Journal of Social Science (PJSS) is an English-language, peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon, a public university established in 1972 and located in Lisbon.
The journal focuses on research about Portuguese society by scholars of any nationality. However, PJSS takes a broad view and accepts articles on social sciences broadly understood that are not exclusively devoted to the Portuguese case. It covers different scientific areas, such as Sociology, History, Political Science, Anthropology, Social Psychology, Human Geography, Social Work, among others, and it also publishes transdisciplinary research.
While the journal concentrates on research articles it operates a flexible policy in respect of other types of submission, including book reviews.
Peer Review Policy
All articles undergo initial editorial screening either by the journal’s Editorial Team and/or by Guest Editors. PJSS operates a double-blind peer review process. Based on this feedback, the Editors communicate a decision and revision suggestions to authors. To appeal an editorial decision, please contact the main Editor who will consider your case.
Open Access Policy
From 2025 onwards, the Portuguese Journal of Social Science (PJSS) offers open access to its content in line with the Open Access Diamond principle of charging fees neither authors nor readers.
Authors are authorised to make the published version of the article available in open access repositories.
